MacKENZIE - Head Coach / Offensive Coordinator/Special Teams
Coach "MacK" enters his
30th year of coaching young men and boys as the new Head Coach
of the Sherwood Park Northstars. His wealth of experience and
knowledge is to be shared among the youth who take up the challenge
of Building S.T.A.R.S. Rob's vision is to have "three strong
thriving football teams to serve the Sherwood Park Area in the
CDMFA and all can be competitive." Coming up from the Pee-Wee
level, Rob has a number of his ex-players in each of the 3 Bantam
Programs in Sherwood Park. He has always sought a vision that
the players must first think of "Family...Education...and
then Football". If the first components are missing then
the Football is compromised.
Rob began coaching in 1977 while
in his third year at Lakehead University (1975 - 1979). After
completion of his Honours Degree in Physical Education he went
to NCAA Div. II St. Cloud State University Huskies (1979 - 1981)
for two years as an assistant with the Offensive and Defensive
Lines. During this time Rob took his teacher certification and
completed his post graduate level courses in Sport Psychology.
Rob moved to Edmonton in 1981 to
begin teaching and coached at Victoria Composite High School,
Queen Elizabeth High School, and Harry Ainlay High School. He
left teaching in 1988 but still remained on the coaching staff
at McNally High School . During those years Rob coached, he had
3 City Conference Championship Teams and One Provincial Championship
as an assistant at Harry Ainlay.
Rob had the opportunity to take
in Football Clinics involving the legends of the sport including
the likes of Woody Hayes (Ohio State) and Joe Montana (San Francisco
49'ers). Rob's experience will only help to enhance all those
athletes who seek his tutelage.
Rob has garnered the respect of
all those involved in the Sherwood Park Minor Football Program
and while coaching with the Atom Eskimos won a provincial championship
and this past season as the head coach of the Pee-Wee Raiders
was voted by his peers as the CDMFA Coach of the year. The Raiders
were also voted the top defensive team. In the past four years
he has amassed a 38 W - 8 L record.
Rob looks forward to bringing forth
his energy to serving all youth in the football community by launching
his Building S.T.A.R.S. football camp to take place the week after
Victoria Day. We look forward to all players from any team benefiting
from this experience.
